Low-temperature electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry for coordination compounds

This review is focused on the current state-of-the art of low-temperature electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry applied for coordination organometallic compounds. From first tentative steps in 1960s to present sophisticated spectroelectrochemical systems, studies redox reactions coupled chemical processes have always fascinated chemists. The main reason that low temperature offers possibility not only quantify thermodynamics/kinetics electron transfer reactions, but also better decipher mechanistic pathways chemical-coupled reactions. Various cryo-electrochemical set-ups been designed leading significant advancement situ detection transient unstable species generated by electrochemistry. In this review, we detail novel aspects which can be discovered performing electrochemical/spectroelectrochemical investigations at temperature, means carry out resolved temperatures close liquid nitrogen solidification. Specific examples are given demonstrate powerful information taken from chemistry. A conclusion outlooks presented discuss about perspectives remaining challenges research field.
